BRIEF

The brief was pretty simple.

Design something using Edens waste streams for sale in their shop.

What

The Eden Disc is a throwing disc which is formed from waste cardboard, coffee grounds and palm fronds.

The mixture is simple to produce and can be moulded and dried at eden before being sold at the gift shop.

The user then takes their toy to the beach for their holiday before discarding it in the shrubbery.

Design

The dimensions and profile of the disc is based on a competition disc for the sport of ultimate Frisbee.

The disc can fly well over 90m.

With an added bump for grip and a coarse texture the disc can be gripped by almost anyone.

Making

At a later stage in the project I began to work with a fellow student, Chris Vickery.

I took on the physical design of the product whilst he focused on finalising the composition.

To make the mould I first turned the shape on a wood lathe before vacuum forming the shape.

I then worked with Chris to test the composition in different environments.

Sketchbook

A few of the sketches from throughout the project.
